Brahmayoni Hill Gaya — Pilgrimage Guide, Sacred Caves & Rebirth Rites

Brahmayoni Hill is one of the most spiritually charged Vedis in Gaya. Passing through its narrow natural rock caves symbolizes freedom from the womb of rebirth and grants soul liberation.

Brahmayoni Hill stands south of Gaya town, rising 450 feet above the surrounding plain. In ancient Vedic lore, it is one of the key hill Vedis of Gaya Kshetra. The hill features two narrow natural rock fissures named **Brahmayoni** and **Matreoni**.

The Metaphysical Symbolism of the Caves Passing through the narrow natural rock cleft of Brahmayoni Cave is believed to cleanse a person of all sins of worldly attachment and free the soul from the torment of entering another human or animal womb (re-incarnation cycle).

Lord Buddha's Fire Sermon (Adittapariyaya Sutta)

Historical records show that Lord Buddha delivered his famous Fire Sermon to 1,000 former fire-worshipping ascetics atop Brahmayoni Hill, leading them all to Enlightenment (Arhatship).

How to Visit Brahmayoni Hill Today

Pilgrims reach the summit via a stone staircase of 424 steps. At the top sits the ancient Brahmayoni Temple housing five-headed images of Lord Brahma and Goddess Astabhuja Gauri.
