Mangla Gauri Temple Gaya — One of 18 Shakti Peethas & Its Role in Pind Daan

Mangla Gauri Temple in Gaya is one of India's 18 sacred Shakti Peethas, housing the divine breast (stana) of Goddess Sati. Its location in the Gaya Kshetra adds a powerful Shakta dimension to the Pind Daan pilgrimage.

Mangla Gauri Temple (मंगला गौरी मंदिर) stands on Mangla Hill in southern Gaya — one of India's 18 recognized Shakti Peethas where the divine body parts of Goddess Sati fell during Lord Shiva's grief-stricken wandering across the cosmos.

The Shakti Peetha Legend According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, after Sati's self-immolation at Daksha's yajna, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to dismember her body. Her stana (breast) fell at Gaya, consecrating the location with supreme Shakti energy. This divine energy amplifies the efficacy of all Pind Daan ceremonies performed within the Gaya Kshetra.

Why Mangla Gauri is Part of the Pind Daan Circuit The Gaya Kshetra derives its extraordinary power from two sources: the presence of Lord Vishnu's divine footprint (at Vishnupad) and the Shakti energy of Mangla Gauri. Many pilgrims include Mangla Gauri Puja as part of their Gaya pilgrimage — seeking the Goddess's blessing for both ancestral liberation and the wellbeing of the living family.

Temple Structure and Layout The main sanctum is a small, ancient stone structure built in the Nagara style. The goddess is represented by two stone discs (representing the stanas) adorned with vermilion, flowers, and gold ornaments. Surrounding the main shrine are smaller shrines to Bhairava (protector), Navagrahas (nine planets), and the 64 Yoginis.
